Courtyard, U.S. ambassador's residence, Paris
The American embassy residence in Paris is a classic Paris palace built "entre cour et jardin." You enter through the archway, which is high enough for a coach and horses. The coach would stop and the passengers get out and go up the stairs into the building. The stables and sometimes servants' quarters were around the courtyard. The garden is behind the building.
